Family-friendly Mill Valley is all about schools and sports. Nestled at the foot of Mount Tamalpais, homes in the Marin County city range from 500-square-foot hunter's cabins to multimillion-dollar mansions tucked away on winding, narrow lanes under the redwoods. Coffee is king in Mill Valley. Downtown, three separate coffee shops do a brisk business. At the Depot, as the sunny town center is called, moms with strollers, kids on tricycles, and teenagers kicking hacky sacks relax in the open-air plaza, which now houses an independent bookstore and cafe. The Depot is also a jumping-off spot for hikers and mountain bikers heading up the slopes of Mount Tamalpais. Nightlife in Mill Valley is anchored by Sweetwater Music Hall, which hosts many well-known musical acts. As the groomed playing fields at the community center attest, sports are big in Mill Valley, with soccer, baseball, and lacrosse leagues all popular.

What We Love

We love this house for a number of reasons.  It is exceptionally well-built, as it was originally owned by the builder for the subdivision.  It is very well insulated and quiet.  The location is on a calm cul-de-sac, and the house offers views of the San Francisco skyline and the Marin Headlands.  It is moments away from access to the 101 freeway, and makes for a great commuting location from southern Marin.  The neighbors are friendly.  It has been a wonderful place to raise children.  The streets in this part of Mill Valley are wide, offer abundant parking for guests, and all utilities are underground, adding aesthetic appeal and fire safety.  This location provides easy access to the many outdoor amenities of Marin, such as Muir Woods, Mt. Tam, Stinson Beach, Angel Island, the Marin Headlands, all while being just a quick jaunt into San Francisco.

The floorplan of the house provides a great flow for entertaining, as the kitchen flows into the family room, and there is also a large formal dining room.  The kitchen is well suited for cooking and has ample counter space for making and serving meals.  We hosted many enjoyable parties and guests would often remark on how the home is really set up well for entertaining.  We loved the built-in speaker system, as well, to provide music to the family room, living room, dining room, master bedroom and guest bedroom.  Parking and storage are abundant in the three-car garage.  There are also several areas for outdoor living and entertaining.  Each bedroom has access to its own or a shared bathroom.

We loved never having an electric utility bill due to the high-output solar panel system on the roof. The house is also wired for ethernet to provide high data speeds for the internet.

There is considerable open space to the north and west of the home that provides a sanctuary-like setting to the lot.
